New Format Modular Advanced Course Unveiled

Advanced Course Symbols.JPG

Shortly after entering the new year  Nilce Silveira, Simon Wellby and Jill Campbell met to review of the Advanced training course modular format and dates scheduled for the UK later this year.

As we strive to combine flexibility with practicality (as well as honouring the process of both students and models),  we have updated the format of the Advanced modular training to a two-phase course.

The good news is that the first phase has now been brought forward to June this year.

The new format will be conducted over two modules; the first of two weeks duration and the second of three weeks. We shall introduce an interval of around two months between each of the phases.

As Nilce says, "This new format will allow students to practice some of the material before coming back for the final two weeks. It will also allow us to return to work between the modules; since we all have so many clients at this stage of our practice, we understand how difficult it is to leave our job behind for five consecutive weeks."

The Advanced Training class dates for the UK in 2008 are now as follows:

  1. June 16th - July 4th
  2. September 1st - 12th

Simon and Nilce look forward to welcoming you to the vibrant city of Bristol in England this summer!

The ISSI welcomes aboard a new tutor

Darren1_1.JPG

Darren Harris M.Sc., SMA, ACSM

We are delighted to welcome on board the wonderfully diverse character that is Darren.

In addition to his quick wit, boundless enthusiasm, sparkling personality and an ability to absorb matter that would put any Dyson to shame, Darren brings with him over 20 years of experience in sports massage and lecturing to audiences within the UK and throughout Europe. He will join us to host the UK based on-line anatomy training class that proved so popular last year with Andy Goodwin.

Darren doesn’t intend to stop at Sports Massage, Personal Fitness Training and lecturing  though; Structural Integration grabbed his attention since he first learned of the importance of fascia in restricting movement. To that end he recently completed his 10-session series and is about to begin his training in Structural Integration with Nilce in Brazil this February.

Good Luck Darren and welcome aboard!

You can read about Darren in more detail in the About Us page: http://www.theissi.org/about_us.htm

The ISSI Completes its first Anatomy Training Class

The Schwartz1_1.jpg

Andy Goodwin, Anatomy and SI Teacher with the ISSI, successfully completed the ISSI’s first On-Line Anatomy class in November 2007.

The class heralded the success of the application of intenet technology to the international classroom environment and seamless (well mostly!) confluence between the West, South and East USA; the UK and Europe via Skype, covering the 16 modules of anatomy.

The anatomy course was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with each other over the internet (we used the Skype Conferencing facility) prior to meeting    each other in class.

We found that the students were able to form bonds and, though from very different backgrounds, each brought enriching personal insights and approaches to each of the modules that everyone could benefit from.

"Andy was a wonderfully giving and encouraging teacher, always with a positive response to any answer who gently guided the students onto the right track (however  far or close they were to it!)."

We’re all looking forward to the next Online class; the first went so smoothly though that I can’t imagine how it could be improved upon!
